13 Years Since Our First Dance

Yesterday was the 13th anniversary of the day Andrew and I became a couple.

It was a Friday night. We went to a church dance for single adults. I called his roommate to make sure he would be there that night. Then I got all fancied up, and headed to the dance with my brother. When Andrew got to the dance, I pretended I just barely remembered his name. Which went way over his head...and we talked for a while before he asked me to dance. We danced the rest of the night together. How could he resist? The fix was in! After the dance, I invited Andrew back to my apartment to play Skip-bo. My brother said he would meet us at the apartment. He wisely hung out with some friends before coming home. We played Skip-bo, Andrew told me very sweetly, that I was cute. I was glad he noticed. Then we stayed up all night talking. It was so fun!

The next day, I had to go to Houston to help my mom with some things, and I knew I would be trashed from staying up all night. Andrew offered to drive. Now it was my turn to not be able to resist! We enjoyed the weekend with my mom.

At one point we went to get some dinner with my mom. While he went in ahead of us, my mom tells me that she thinks this boy is head over heels for me. I was not convinced. We enjoyed our drive back to Dallas. On this drive, he told me that he would be referring to me as his girlfriend. I had no problem with that.

I love our whirlwind relationship. It was such a fun and confusing time. Who falls in love in a weekend? I guess we did.

My New Favorite Song

Um, if you didn't know, I am a little OCD. If you don't know what that is, look it up, pretty textbook on a few of the symptoms. But anyway...

I am currently in love with this song, and I need to listen to it realllllllly loud. Sometimes with headphones on. If I worked out, it would definitely be on my playlist. If I had an iPod, it would be on in my ears non-stop. It is a really good way to drown out the noise of the kids...did I just type that out loud....oh well.

If you are not into rocking out...this song is not for you. However, if you have that moshpit, hands in the air, head banging rockstar deep down in your bones, you will probably like this.

This one is the acoustic version. Really pretty, so if you don't rock out, go for this one.

Who me??? I've been memed!

Sheri at Shades of Pink tagged me for the Six Quirky Things Meme, here are the rules:
Link back to the person who tagged you
List the rules on your blog
Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of your own
Tag 6 bloggers to complete the meme.

Hmmmm....now something quirky about me? That will be tough, I don't think I am that quirky, just a little on the edge of reality most of the time.

1. I like to eat tomatoes in my cottage cheese. Shocked?

2. I am a serious thrifter. I have a list of things I want to find at a thrift store before I go in. I used to go just to browse, but that got dangerous. If I have to pay full price for something at a regular retail store, I don't like it near as much. The bargain is the only thing that matters. I think it makes me feel smart! LOL!

3. I am particular about the temperature of foods. If my plate gets too cold at dinner, I get up to heat it in the microwave.

4. I have Texas Angst. I feel guilty for not living in Texas any longer. I feel like a traitor of the worst kind! Only Texans will understand this...sorry to all the yankees who read my blog. LOL!

5. Anytime I am sitting I like to prop my feet up. I am just comfortable like that. It may have to do with the fact that I am short, and most chairs are uncomfortable due to my legs not touching the floor all the way.

6. I like all conversations to be wrapped up in a nice neat package. A good summary at the end is a good thing. "Ok, well have fun doing _____ today, and I will call you about ______ later, and tell ______ I said Hi." It just helps me make sure I covered all things I needed to tell a person. See? I am not crazy!

Ok, now for the part I hate: Tagging
Wendy at Fireflies, Frogs and Mosquitos, Oh MY!
Ivy at Hedging My Bets!
Lynn at A Mother's Journal
Kayla at Bristle Ridge Academy
Amanda at The Towne House
Shonda at Hollyhock Hill
Have a happy day!

Twilight - Yes I Am Into Teen Vampire Love Stories

So, a few weeks ago I finished the first 3 books of the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. A ton of the young women in our church's youth program were reading them. Then I found out a few of their mom's were reading them. So, I decided to give them a look-see. Um, well for about 5 days I did nothing but read these books. To say I find them very interesting and well written is an understatement. I can't wait for the next book to come out in August. Yes, I have preordered it!

So in the meantime I decided it would be fun to host a little waiting party. This is the idea. You have to find a song to represent each character in the book, or as many as you want. But all entries must at least include a song for Bella and Edward.

You can either just list them in the comments section or post a link to your blog. I was going to try a new trick of embedding the video from Youtube, but guess what? It won't work! ANNOYING, so here they are in hyperlink...SORRY. PSYCHE! I figured it out!

Edward - Three Days Grace - Never Too Late

Bella - Seether Featuring Amy Lee - Broken

Having a Little Fun

Yesterday I woke up at 5 am. Not my usual wake up time, but we had gone to bed early, so it is not that weird. I was trying to decide if I should go back to sleep, or get up. Then I had the best idea! I turned over and woke up my sweetheart, after waiting for 3o minutes. 5:30 isn't near as insane as 5 when it is a day you can sleep in right??? So, I turn over and say, "Let's take the kids out to breakfast!" I couldn't believe it but he said, "OK!"

So as he showered and dressed, I went and woke up the kids and told them we were going some place fun and to get up and get dressed. I forgot "some place fun" to a kid means Disneyland, or the lake, or some other lavish vacation spot. So I quickly had to squash all those sweet childlike dreams, and let them in on the secret that we are just going to breakfast. We never do that, so I thought it would be fun.

It was! We went to the Huddle House, and had a wonderful breakfast. We found a newspaper insert for the local Peach Festival that is going on next week. We love the Peach Festival, with the parade, and the exhibits, and the annual Peach Hunt.

After breakfast we went to the peach orchard and stood in line forever for some peaches. I tried to get some overripes, but those are really not over ripe. They are just damaged and still not ripe. So now they are sitting on a towel on my counter, ripening, as I try to keep bugs off with another towel over them. Won't do that again! Next time, just shell out the money and buy the good ones, and let them ripen.

The process of harvesting and selling the peaches is pretty neat. We watched closely as they brought in the large crates of peaches that were harvested that morning, and the whole crate is set in a water bath. The rinsed peaches then go to a sorting bin, where they sort over ripes (cough - damaged cough), extra firm (for gift boxes), and number ones (ready to eat, or will be ready in a day or two). Then everyone stands in line and waits to be served as they come off the line. I will add pictures as soon as I figure out how to get them off of Andrew's cell phone.

We also went to my mother in law's work and drew pictures for her while we waited for the peach place to open. My kids love going to see Nana, and visiting with all of her co-workers. She works in the university post office. So there is a whole other layer of excitement there. Mouse especially likes to wait for students to come get there mail, and then she surprises them by saying hello after they open thier box. HA!

Then we wrapped up the morning with a movie from Netflix. Peter Pan the live action one. That is by far my favorite. Then a glorious nap. I woke up early remember!

What have you been doing just for fun?

Fun Find!

We went to the thrift store yesterday and found something very RETRO! An electric typewriter!

We have had fun writing a letter this morning. Monkey is waiting his turn behind Mouse to write a letter to his new pen pal. She is writing a story. It is fun listening to the hen pecking......click.......clack........click click......clack. It is as if each time she types a key the typewriter is shouting, "Found it!".

The clicking also reminded me of my mom endlessly practicing to increase her typing speed as I was growing up. It was a necessity. She was a single parent, and our livelihood depended on how fast she could type in her various clerical positions. Even today my mom practices her typing. Except now she uses a nice typing tutor program on a laptop. Medical transcription requires an accurate and speedy typist. It is just one of those things that a mother does to provide for her children, that you never appreciate until you are older.

I never took typing in school. I had friends who took it, but I could not be bothered. I took the word processing class. WAY more my style. I also never learned shorthand. Now, that skill could come in handy. I like to write things down word for word when taking notes. Especially during general conference, where a missed word could change the whole meaning of some spiritual matter. Good thing they publish it in a magazine later, or I would be toast.

Something for Music Lovers

In addition to being stand up comedians, we listen to music like maniacs.

Recently we found a really cool music site with free music and quality sound. It is www.pandora.com

You choose a song or artist you like and set up a "radio station" for that artist. Then the site will play music in that artists style, including music from that artist. It works on an evaluation system, you tell it what you like or dislike, and it will play songs based on your ratings.

Enjoy!

Mommy Logic goes Spring!

Ok, I was tired of the cozy feeling. I needed to feel like grass was growing and bees were buzzing all about the blog world.

I am working on the white background. Right now the graphic I made with the help of clipart from www.pccrafter.com is creating a hideous white square around the oval and I can't figure out how to fix it! So we are doing white until I can get something figured out.

Happy Spring everyone!
