Yellow for Sunshine!

Here is a progress pic of the dollhouse. We now have to paint the foundation and ceilings to progress to the next step of assembly. The next progress pic will be of the assembled frame.

We discussed how we need to make sure each step is completed thoroughly with attention to detail. We realized we would be really disappointed after assembly if we skimped because we were tired of sanding and painting. It was good training.

Year of the Dollhouse Progress Pics

Here are the photos from the work we did yesterday.
There are over 500 shingles that need to be stained and sealed for the roof. We did about 50 of them by hand, then decided that we were going to be there alllll night if we didn't do something else. So, I took a really old bread pan, and put the shingles in and poured the stain over them, let them soak a bit, and then we laid them out to dry on newspaper. After they dried a couple hours, we sealed them with clear acrylic spray. I think it will work. The ones in the pic that are not stained are the backsides of the ones we did by hand.

Today we will be putting the first coat on the clapboards. Think buttery yellow....pretty!

It has begun...Year of the Dollhouse

Ok, today we worked hard on the dollhouse. We worked for about 4 hours. We put on a primer coat on all the outside pieces and trim. We also stained all the shingles, and sealed them.

The other day Mouse and I worked hard on picking out colors for the house. We traced the house on tracing paper, and then colored it with the selected colors. Today, while at Lowe's, I browsed the returned paint section. I found small sample cans of the exact colors we were looking for. These sample cans are usually 3.98 each, we paid 50 cents to a dollar. It was a real bargain and a blessing.

Mouse and I had fun talking and visiting while we painted and sanded the pieces. I can tell that this is going to be a very special time for us.

My batteries are dead in my camera right now, but I will post our progress soon.

Year of the Dollhouse

A fellow Rower has a super idea. She is using her daughter's dollhouse to take time to connect with her. There is such precious little time left with our children when we they are really listening and trying to emulate us. She is using this year to foster homemaking skills and lovingly teach her daughter values of a good homemaker. Also, spending some real quality time with her. I was truly inspired by this, and have joined her on her journey for the next year. I will not be able to find something every day to put in the dollhouse, but I am sure I can find something at least once a week. I am excited to begin our journey.

To learn more go to Lynn's website and read about it. All posts regarding this journey will be labeled The Year of the Dollhouse. Lynn has several already. Ours will begin soon after Christmas.
