Yesterday I woke up at 5 am. Not my usual wake up time, but we had gone to bed early, so it is not that weird. I was trying to decide if I should go back to sleep, or get up. Then I had the best idea! I turned over and woke up my sweetheart, after waiting for 3o minutes. 5:30 isn't near as insane as 5 when it is a day you can sleep in right??? So, I turn over and say, "Let's take the kids out to breakfast!" I couldn't believe it but he said, "OK!"
So as he showered and dressed, I went and woke up the kids and told them we were going some place fun and to get up and get dressed. I forgot "some place fun" to a kid means Disneyland, or the lake, or some other lavish vacation spot. So I quickly had to squash all those sweet childlike dreams, and let them in on the secret that we are just going to breakfast. We never do that, so I thought it would be fun.
It was! We went to the Huddle House, and had a wonderful breakfast. We found a newspaper insert for the local Peach Festival that is going on next week. We love the Peach Festival, with the parade, and the exhibits, and the annual Peach Hunt.
After breakfast we went to the peach orchard and stood in line forever for some peaches. I tried to get some overripes, but those are really not over ripe. They are just damaged and still not ripe. So now they are sitting on a towel on my counter, ripening, as I try to keep bugs off with another towel over them. Won't do that again! Next time, just shell out the money and buy the good ones, and let them ripen.
The process of harvesting and selling the peaches is pretty neat. We watched closely as they brought in the large crates of peaches that were harvested that morning, and the whole crate is set in a water bath. The rinsed peaches then go to a sorting bin, where they sort over ripes (cough - damaged cough), extra firm (for gift boxes), and number ones (ready to eat, or will be ready in a day or two). Then everyone stands in line and waits to be served as they come off the line. I will add pictures as soon as I figure out how to get them off of Andrew's cell phone.
We also went to my mother in law's work and drew pictures for her while we waited for the peach place to open. My kids love going to see Nana, and visiting with all of her co-workers. She works in the university post office. So there is a whole other layer of excitement there. Mouse especially likes to wait for students to come get there mail, and then she surprises them by saying hello after they open thier box. HA!
Then we wrapped up the morning with a movie from Netflix. Peter Pan the live action one. That is by far my favorite. Then a glorious nap. I woke up early remember!
What have you been doing just for fun?

Hi Alana,
I'm so glad I found your blog on the FIAR ring. Somehow I've missed it before now.
Congratulations on your newest little one - love the baby counter!
Sounds like a fun morning you had - what a great idea. :)
Blessings,
Shannon (FIAR boards)
What a fun idea! Breakfast out. I just have to LAUGH at waiting until 5:30 instead of telling yoru dh at 5:00.
Andrea
I so miss the SC peaches. They were so good and I loved picking them and eating them at the same time. Glad you got a new baby counter up. That's the same one another friend is using. Hopefully it won't make you dizzy. And I don't know any songs regarding Twilight people, but they were way fun books to read. One friend says they are the books that turn husbands into widows!
Love ya
